There have been any studies throughout the past decade comparing the diet and female related cancers of American and Asian woman. The correlation between certain dietary nutrients and a lack of certain cancers seem now to be established. Tamsah Mide was formulated with this in mind. The elements, documented to lower the risk of female cancers in these studies, have been combined to form a single formula. The fight against cancer, just became a little easier.

Tamsah Mide contains:
Burdock root - a good blood purifier (4), inhibits tumors (7), purifies the blood, restores the liver and stimulates the immune system (8), contains phytoestrogens which have been found to decrease the incidence of breast cancer and decrease cancer cell growth (6).
Cabbage leaf - contains indole-3 carbinol which reduces the risk of breast cancer because it interferes with estrogen metabolism (6).
Chaparral - contains a powerful antioxidant, anti-tumor substance called NDGA (1), NDGA prevents the formation of cancer cells, kills and or prevents cancerous growths (2), an effective anti-cancer herb (4), protects against harmful effects of radiation, protects against the formation of tumors and cancer (8).
Dandelion - when combined with yellow dock and red clover, a powerful remedy for cancerous growths (3), treats cancer (2), stimulates and aids the liver to eliminate toxins from the blood (4), aids in the prevention of sun spots and breast cancer (8), contain retinoids which are being used in studies against breast cancer (6).

Although I think contributing to fear in another person is a major sin, I do want to pass on some alarming information I came across just recently. I was catching up with my technical journals on the air plane ride to New Hampshire where I was lecturing at an international herb conference. One of the articles that got my attention was on breast cancer. I am a firm believer in prevention and treating the disease instead of the symptoms, so this article offered some great insights.
For years the public has known that pesticides and herbicides are dangerous to women. We have probably all heard about studies showing the large amount of DDT in mother's milk. These chemicals are not only bad for baby, but bad for the mother too.
One of the leading causes of breast cancer is the absorption of xenoestrogens or estrogen mimics. These estrogen mimics bind to the estrogen receptor sites in the breast and elsewhere, then transmit a message to the body that tells cancer cells to grow. They also they tell the receptor cells to proliferate, which allows for even more xenoestrogens to be absorbed and more cancerous growth. Pesticides and herbicides carry estrogen mimics. The most often used pesticide on corn is Atrazine, so it's not just a matter of what you use around the house or garden, it's also about what farmers use. Scary, huh?
Researchers believe 50-95% of cancers are caused by diet and environment. But it's not just the pesticides, and this is were is really gets scary. Xenoestrogens are present in plastics. ALL PLASTICS. For the past several decades, one of the problems lab scientists have had is that chemicals traveling through plastic tubing picked up xenoestrogens, which interfered with chemicals analysis. I'm assuming that if they knew is was happening in the lab, they could figure out it was happening in day to day life, but I don't remember being notified. Here's the problem; what don't you eat that is packaged in plastic? You think that the bottled water you are drinking is healthy, because you no longer consume soda pop or coffee? Think again. You've stopped eating red meat, so you pick up frozen fish at the store which rests on a green plastic tray covered with cling wrap. You want to eat fresh vegetables but the cauliflower, carrots, and celery all come in plastic bags. Or if you pick your veggies from an open bin, you put your collection in the plasic, bulk bags provided.
Filtering home tap water is a must. There are large amounts of xenoestrogens in the detergents that are used privately and by industry, and which find their way into water supplies, especially ground water.
Feeling hopeless yet? There is no doubt this one is going to be an up hill battle, but there are some things you can do to protect yourself. No, drinking out of aluminum cans is not the answer. Remember aluminum is a major contributor to Alzheimer's disease. Remove food whenever possible from plastic containers and store in butcher's paper or wax paper. (Good by Mrs. Tupper.) Put the fresh produce you are purchasing in paper bags instead of plastic. Sure the checkout person will look at you strange, but what you do want; strange looks or cancer? Never ever heat foods in plastic containers in the microwave. Purchase drinks in glass bottles. Avoid using and consuming foods grown with pesticides and/or herbicides. Buy a good, replaceable water filter for your home. Eat lots of soy products.
Soy is one of the easiest to find and fix phytoestrogens. Consuming natural phytoestrogens will provide your body a healthy form of estrogen to bind to receptor sites. Natural estrogens will not cause cancer cells to grow, nor does it tell the receptor cells to proliferate.
Cutting red meat out of your diet will cut down on xenoestrogen uptake. This is a long chemical process that occurs in the intestinal track, and I don't feel I need to describe here. Eating more indole-3-carbinal vegetables (brussel sprouts, kale, cauliflower, cabbage, collard greens, and broccoli) will also assist in moving estrogen mimics through the bowels with little absorption. A vitamin called Cacium-D-glucarate is also been found to help move xenoestrogens through the body.
Although alarming, I hope this information is helpful to you all.

I hope you all took my article on xeno-estrogens to heart. The situation is as bad, or worse than I reported. My sister Terri found a major network news story that told of hospitals being concerned about using plastic I.V. bags and tubing as they fear they are giving their patients cancer in the process.

What to do about Plastics in the Kitchen
I went on a cleaning spree in my kitchen after I wrote the Sept.1998 Runner, about gender related cancer and xeno-estrogens, getting rid of all the Tupperware and other plastics I could. I thought I would share what I have learned about avoiding xeno-estrogens in the kitchen. It's really not all that hard, and it's a great excuse to by some new dishes!
Storing:
I went back to what my grandmother always referred to as refrigerator jars. These, basically, are wide mouthed jars that have plastic lids or rubber seals and don't rust much. Mayonnaise, some peanuts butters, pickles, etc. all work well.
I still use zip lock bags, but instead of dumping the food directly into them, I wrap the food first in wax paper and then insert it in the bag. Buy several rolls of wax paper at the store, as it will become a very popular item.
Pyrex and Corning make really great little containers that usually come with plastic lids. If the food isn't touching the lid, it's safe. If you are worried about it, cover the bowl first with wax paper, then snap the lid on. You can also get stainless steel bowls with plastic lids, that will do nicely, and don't forget the graniteware camping bowls and cups, which is metal covered with a ceramic glaze.
Bread presented an unusual problem, not impossible, but it needed some creativity. I have a bread machine, and have been using it constantly. How to keep bread from going stale and not use plastic? Good question. First wrap it in wax paper, then put it in a plastic bread bag (from a previous loaf) or in a paper bag, OR sew a bag out of tightly woven material. I made mine out of rip stop nylon, and it works great. Try two layers of cotton cloth, making the outside a print you like.
Cooking:
Most table ware can go into the microwave, and a napkin or paper towel over the top will keep it from splattering. The Corning and Pyrex you used to store the food in, will, of course, go right into the microwave easily, but be sure not to use the plastic lids. No one cooks on top of the stove in plastics, so we won't go there.
Convenience cups:
Here's the hardest one so far, but again, not impossible. Since I have scared myself out of 90% of my old aspartame habit, I have taken to making myself pots of herbal and mixed teas as a beverage. Sweetened, of course, with Stevia. Instead of pouring my drinks into plastic thermal convenience cups to take them with me in the car or have around the office and house as I work, I now use a 16 oz. glass juice bottle. I went to the store and bought a couple of beverages in glass jars (Arizona teas, SoBe juices, etc.). After consuming the contents (not my favorites, but it was tolerable) I then made a "cozy" for the jar out of two layers of rip stop nylon with a layer of thin foam between. Mine is a little fancy, but you can make a simple one that allows for the jar to just slip in. Make sure you put a bottom in the cozy to absorb any condensation. I checked first to see what bottles would fit into my car caddy before I began, as that is where I usually want something to drink. With the insulation, the bottled contents stay quite cool for hours. You will have to experiment with the bottle tops to see what you like best, cut away opening, unscrewing, etc.

It's long been a joke among women that if men got PMS, cramps or hot flashes, a cure would have been found for it a long time ago. The truth is, there has been a cure for it, from a long time ago. But in the past century, Americans especially, have grown to disdain those things that smacked of the 'old knowledge', and science and technology have moved to the forefront. It has only been since science 'discovered' the mysteries of the life giving plants of the too fastly diminishing rain forests and other vestiges of Nature, that the potentials and properties of herbs have gained recognition. As indigenous Native Americans, we have known and held the wisdom of our plant relations in common and sacred knowledge for eons. Plants are seen as viable and participating members of our world. Without the support of the other "nations", we as human beings would not exist.
The gifts of the Green Nations are not small. Over 75% of all pharmaceuticals were orignally derived from phytochemicals and over 36% of all drugs used for cancer come from the rain forests. That last figure is pretty scary when you remember that the forests are being destroyed to the tune of one foot ball field sized area every 15 minutes. Total destruction. Total ruin. Totally unacceptable. Until human kind manages to 'paint itself into a corner', let's look at how herbs can help and stop menstrual suffering.
Most familiar to many is licorice, although we usually think of it in connection with candy and as a flavoring. Licorice root is an antispasmodic, acts like estrogen in the system and is also and anti-inflammatory. These are three important functions when dealing with PMS and menstrual cramps. Pleasant tasting and sweet, the root itself can be chewed or taken in tincture or capsule form. Saw palmetto (a small palm growing in SE. N. Am.) is also an anti-inflammatory, but has the added bonus of decreasing ovarian irritability. Suma (a S. Am. herb) is a wonderful immuno-modulator (supports and boosts the immune system). This root energizes the body, combats anemia, fatigue and stress. Mitchella repens (commonly known as "squaw" vine will not be referred to in that term here. "Squaw" in a derogatory term, bastardized from it's original Native form, referring to women's genitals; you know, the "C" word!) This uterine tonic has been used throughout history and is still used to help prevent miscarriage. Gotu Kola, known in tropical countries and in Ayruvedic medicine, promotes healing after childbirth, and aids in eliminating excess fluids. It acts as a nerve tonic, decreases fatigue and depression and is said to help the sex drive. Wild Yam is a wonderful estrogen replacement, and can be easily used by women facing menopause. Care and caution should be used by women facing reproductive cancer, especially after surgery. In some forms of cancer, an increase in estrogen can cause different tissues (cyst, tumors, etc.) to grow rapidly. Contact your doctor about estrogen supplements. Dong Qui (also known as Dang Gui and Tang Kuei) is a amazing general tonic. This herb, also an anti-inflammatory and anti-spasmodic, aids women of all ages by helping regulate menses, stopping cramps, insomnia, hypertension and hot flashes. Schizandra fruit, also from China, is a friend to women entering the Grandmother Lodge. This herb is an anti-depressant, mild stimulant while lowering the blood pressure, stopping night sweats, heart palpitations and insomnia.
Most of these herbs can be found in health food stores in capsules or tinctures. The best and most successful applications of these herb though is in combination. While there are many herb companies making and promoting women's herbal support, know that each women is different and while one product does nothing for you, another may be exactly what you need. Likewise, be prepared to try one for a month or two before you make up your mind it is or is not what you want. Certain herbs work better in concert with others, and only a well trained herbalist can help you decide what is best in your particular case.
